Section 1128 strives:
To be your Quality Resource of Choice.

ABOUT US:

Section 1128 was founded in May 1991 by fourteen members of the Hampton Roads ASQC Section 1114, because of geographical challenges getting between the "Southside" and the "Peninsula".

The ASQ Tidewater Section serves the communities of Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, and Suffolk.  We also have members from as far away as Elizabeth City, NC and Franklin, VA.

Over the years Section 1128 has grown to over 160 members.  These individuals form a tight knit community in promoting the ideals of ASQ.

ASQ Tidewater, whose motto is "Striving to be Your Quality Resource of Choice", is proud to be a member of the International ASQ Organization.

How to make the most of our site:,

The Basics:  This site is growing and changing to be the face of our section.  If you only have a few minutes, sporadically to even think about ASQ, we want to help you maximize that time.  Use it to send a quick question, check local activities, find a training or promote yourself.  Find things quickly by entering a word in the Search box at the top of each page or selecting a page from the dropdowns next to it or one of the main Menu options..

Accounts:  This is a membership site.  Most pages are fully open (no account required), but if you create an account on the site you will gain access to posting on the discussion boards (forums).  Visit any of the forums and you will see a register link.  Using that link will give you access to all forums (except any with further restrictions).  Once you have created your account, you  may modify it and put in some information about yourself that you would like to share with others - your User Profile.  To change this information at anytime, visit a forum and click on the Account link, once you are logged in.  If you choose the option to remain logged in, a cookie will be stored on your computer so that future visits to this site from that same machine will have you automatically logged in.

Forums:  Our discussion boards give you a chance to connect with other members and your local leaders on whatever topics are of interest to you.  Each board has an assigned moderator who will ensure that you at least get an acknowledgement to your question.  If we have the answer, that will be there too!  If not, we will help to try and find it.  This can range from questions about how to do your job better, how to get a new certification or to recertify, how to participate in the local section when you just don't have time!  But this is not just the place for questions - we need answers and we need suggestions.  So take a peek and see if you have any ideas for us.   Please read the section on Accounts before joining a Forum.

Your personal information:  When you create an account on our site, there is a place to enter some information about yourself.  When people are reading your posts on the forums, they can click on your name and see this information.  BUT, we want to give you a greater opportunity to share, if you wish.  We now have a page "Our Members" on which you can choose what you would like to share about yourself.  You can complete an online form or simply email the webmaster to get your information added to this page.  Include your name and any desired contact information.  List any credentials and certifications that you would like shown and also add anything that you would like in a More Info block of that page.  Members will only be listed on this page if they so request.  Changes and updates should be submitted as needed.

Sell yourself:  In addition to making use of our User Profile and Our Members options, you might want to consider writing an article on what you do or what you have learned or anything Quality related.  We now have a page "Our Members Say" which will allow us to feature YOU.  To be included, send your article (preferable in a pdf or word doc format) along with some contact information to the webmaster.  Provide a short description which can be listed on that page next to the Title, Author and Date (date when put on our site).  Multiple authors may be listed.  Try to conform with good writing practices (references, quotes, etc should be accurate) and don't infringe on any copyrights!

Network:  You can add things to our site:  if you know of an available job, training or event, choose the appropriate link from the More Pages dropdown and submit your information.  Learn about our members and events by looking at the pages: Our Members, Our Members Say, Event Calendar, or by looking at the discussion forums.

Improve your skills:  Attend events or trainings; borrow articles from our Lending Library; view a webinar.  Check out the links to these pages:  Training, Event Calendar, ASQ Library.  Interested in the next weekend review session?  Contact the webmaster or visit the Training Forum to get a discussion going about the whats, wheres, whens, etc of that session or set of sessions.
